14 Aug USCIS Updates Crucial Form I-485
Washington, D.C., August 14, 2019: USCIS today announced an update to Form I-485, Application to Register Permanent Residence or Adjust Status. This crucial form in the U.S. immigration system is used by all applicants for green cards who are in the U.S. and seek a green card while remaining in the U.S. It is not used by green card applicants processing their application at a U.S. Consulate abroad.
The new edition of Form I-485 is dated July 15, 2019.
The revisions include a new check-the-box system listing 27 separate immigrant categories to establish eligibility.
The revised Form I-485 now incorporate all questions from Form G-325A. Thus, the new Form I-485 makes it unnecessary to file Form G-325A with Form I-485.
USCIS also updated companion Forms I-485A (for applicants under Section 245(i) of the INA) and Form I-485J (for employment-based applicants sponsored by a U.S. employer).
